Tampa Bay Landscaper - Landscaping Project

Here is a good example of a before and after with a recently completed landscape project in the Apollo Beach, Florida area. A Quality Plant met with the owner of the home and plans were made to replace the "Builder Special" landscape package with a more tropical look. The palms were transplanted to the back yard and all the other plants with the exception of the flax lilies and the mammy crotons were removed.
A Quality Plant installed 9 Flax Lilies to reinforce the look around the Royal Palm to the left of the driveway and one additional Mammy Croton. The Royal Palm added much needed height to this side of the house. Special care is required to transplant a Royal Palm with no damage to the sensitive Grey Wood.
The Fungus infested Podocarpus was replaced with a Dracenia marginata, the Crinum Lily was replaced with a European Fan Palm and the sickly Queen Palm was replaced with another Royal Palm.
The Pine Bark chips were removed and replaced with Cypress Mulch. Why not Red Mulch? No contrast with the Mammy Crotons. Cypress makes the Mammy Crotons "Pop".
Finally, A Quality Plant installed 6 Purple Lantana around the Live Oak at the street.

A Quality Plant a Florida Wholesale Tree Farm

Washingtonia Palms / Washington Palms
A Quality Plant shipped out a load of the cold hardy palms "Washingtonia robusta" commonly known as the Washingtonia or Washington Palm. The Washingtonia is named after ... You guessed it ... George Washington!

The Washingtonia is Cold Hardy, Salt Tolerant and Drought Tolerant. The palm can grow to heights in excess of 100 ft and is often removed from residential and commercial landscapes for this reason.

There are two different types of Washingtonia Palms:

The Washingtonia Palm is fast growing and affordable and makes a great addition to the landscape.

A Quality Plant Is a full service Landscaper. Services include free estimates and the installation of tropical plants, palm trees, trees, pavers and curbing. A Quality Plant is asked frequently to come up with a plan to improve existing landscaping. Below is an example of one such job located in Apollo Beach, Florida in the Harbor Isles subdivision.

(grey rock was cold and did not work well with the color of the house...the Magnolia was not doing well due to soil conditions, the grass was planted too close to the sidewalk and had to be over-trimmed to keep it off the walkway, the hibiscus tree was too close to the sidewalk and the house)

After discussing color preferences and identifying plants the customer preferred, A Quality Plant presented a plan to the customer. Here are the results.

A Quality Plant would love the opportunity to work with you next.

Bismarck Palm - Bismarckia nobilis

Bimsarck Palm / Bismarckia nobilis
A Quality Plant gets requests for this exceptional palm as much as any other palm we carry. It seems that people either love them or hate them. I think the Bismarck Palm is an exceptional palm and have planted eight in my own yard.

The Bismarck Palm comes from the highland savannas of it'e native home of Madagascar.

The Bismarck palm's fronds are silver in color and rather large. At maturity, the Bismarck Palm can be over twenty feet wide.

The Bismarck Palm is drought tolerant, salt tolerant, disease resistant, and surprisingly wind tolerant. They can be over-trimmed and under fertilized and still look amazing. The more silver the Bismarck Palm, the more cold hardy the palm and the better the palm handles frost. There is a variety that is green and should probably be avoided unless you are a completist.

Bismarck Palms start out slow and then are medium growers once established. The Bismarck Palm is fun to watch grow and I think it is a must in every palm garden.
